At Alder Trails Dental, we do everything we can to help our patients keep their natural teeth. However, certain situations can arise where a dental extraction is the best choice. If a tooth has become damaged and can’t be repaired with a crown or root canal, removing it before an infection occurs is usually a good option. Teeth can also cause overcrowding and damage each other, so sometimes a dental extraction is needed as part of an orthodontic treatment plan. You can rest assured that if we recommend a dental extraction to you, it’s for a good reason.

Are tooth extractions painful?

Tooth extractions are among the more invasive procedures that a patient can receive, but they are not painful treatments. Our team will administer a local anesthetic into your gums near the tooth or teeth that are being extracted, which will completely numb the teeth and gums within minutes. Once the numbness wears off, you will have aftercare instructions provided to you that will help ensure that you experience very little to no pain after your treatment. We also recommend having an ice pack on hand to help reduce swelling as well.

What should I avoid after a dental extraction?

Once your treatment is complete, you can eat or drink right away, but you will want to avoid eating anything crunchy or chewy. You should also refrain from drinking anything through a straw, as that can cause a painful complication called a dry socket. Patients should also avoid doing anything too strenuous after a dental extraction, as too much activity can cause the blood clot in the socket to come loose, which slows down the healing process. Ideally, you should take some time off to rest and recover for a few days before resuming your normal routine.

Dr.Tran personally found a way to get my grown here faster and didnt charge me for the extra expense. His words were lets get this off your plate and taken care of. The crown came in and Janet is front office staff communicated with me and got me in. DR.Tran came in on his day off to personally make sure the crown was installed correctly. I cant say enough great things about this practice. I was truly touched how they made my problem their problem and helped me solve it. If you are looking for a dentist in cypress, definitely consider them. You will be so happy you made the switch.
