What is the process for creating dental bridges and dental crowns?

For both treatments, Dr. Tran will begin by applying anesthetic to numb the area around the tooth or teeth that will be affected. Next, any tooth that will be covered by a dental restoration has to have its outer layer removed so there is enough room on all sides for the crown or bridge to be placed. After an impression of the teeth is created using an intraoral camera, your personalized crown or bridge will be created and secured with a dental adhesive, and we will ensure that your new restoration fits well and feels good in your mouth.

What is the difference between dental bridges and crowns?

A crown is a tooth-colored cap that is custom made to fit over a damaged tooth to restore it back to its original appearance and functionality. A bridge can also be used to replace one tooth, but it also works well if multiple teeth in a row need to be replaced. A dental bridge uses the support of the surrounding teeth to “bridge” the gap created by one or more missing teeth.

How long do dental crowns last?

Dental crowns can last 10 to 15 years or longer, depending on how well they’re taken care of. The best way to ensure your dental crown remains in good shape is to maintain a thorough oral care routine and visit our office regularly for exams and cleanings. If you notice a crown is starting to show visible signs of wear and tear, there is pain or swelling around the tooth, or the gum line around the tooth appears to be receding, let us know and we can help you determine if it’s time for a replacement.
